CWU Tour #8: Alaska

July 11, 2017

On my first full day in Alaska, I visited Juneau's superb State History Museum.

Motivation and trepidation both presented themselves as I rolled around Alaska's capital.

I interviewed a woman who helps run a whale-watching tour company, and she kindly put me on a boat. We saw a humpback "lunge-feeding" before we even left the harbor. Later I saw more whales diving with a final wave of their tails.

A few other photos from around Juneau, including shots of a massive glacier.

From Juneau I took the ferry to Haines, where I bear-proofed my campsite before heading to the American Bald Eagle Foundation and then having a couple of beers and working on my writing at the Haines Brewing Company.

On my way out of Haines I got a quick tour of a tour guides' camp thanks to some guys I met at a coffee shop. Then I headed towards Canada, not having any idea what to expect. I saw multiple bald eagles, incredible mountain views, piles of bear scat (poop), and even a lynx on the way north.
